Dentists: The Top 5 Benefits Of Having Video Case Studies

Most dental practice owners are extremely busy people.

Unless they are close to retirement or have been gifted a really unique (read “lucky”) practice, they are the ones managing the day to day tasks for the most part.

This means that they are directly responsible for:

  • Buying new equipment
  • Attending to patients
  • Managing employees
  • Paying employees
  • Taking marketing decisions

In other words, they are wearing 20 different hats AND treating patients.

Yes, this is the case even if they have an office manager and very competent staff.

If you are a practice owner, you are probably nodding your head as you read this.

The reason why I bring all of this up is simple:

Because you are doing ALL of what I mentioned above, you are working IN your business as opposed to ON it.

There is a huge difference between the 2.

Now, if you are working in your practice, you simply do not have the time or the initiative to work on your practice and grow it.

Why?

Because you are probably exhausted by the day to day chores.

For comparison now, let me give you a visual of what the top dental offices do.

Firstly, they have practice owners who are for the most part, disconnected from their practice.

This means that these owners might be working in the practice (say 3 hours a day, 2 days a week), but they are mostly working on it, allowing it to grow.

Now, because they have some free time to catch their breath, they are able to brand their practice in a way that it appeals to the “right” kind of patients.

A very common theme I see here is that such practice owners create video case studies of patients they have “wowed” in the past and they feature in on their website.

Here’s what they do:

  1. They either hire a video production company for 1-2 days to come in an film everything or they get their office manager or staff to do so.
  2. They sit with their past patient and ask them questions about how they helped them and how it made them FEEL.
  3. They take a slightly informal approach to it so the patient doesn’t feel as if they are on the spot
  4. The patient tells the dentist their story. What the initial issue was and how it made them feel (“I had so much pain in my jaw that I had started sweating and it prevented me from doing anything else”) to how they found this dentist (“I looked for the best dentist in my city to go to since I couldn’t take any chances”) to what the dentist did for them and finally, how it made them feel (“I can honestly say that my pain is gone AND my teeth look more presentable”). Remember, it needs to be a story.
  5. The dentist then features the final edited version of this “case study” in the testimonials section of their website. They also send it out to their email list and use it for future marketing promotions (and retargeting).

Yes, it takes some work.

Yes, the rewards are immense.

And yes, only the top 2-3 dental clinics in any city are using this approach.

Speaking of benefits, here are the top 5 benefits of having video case studies on your dental website:

  1. It separates you from the pack and makes you come across as the #1 expert in your area/space: Only the experts provide case studies, the novices don’t.
  2. It brings in people who have the urge to “see” things happen first: Your prospects need to visualize it to believe it and many of them will look for this proof before trusting you with their mouth.
  3. It brings in the “right” kinds of people: You can be sure that when you put up case studies, it will turn away freebie seekers and will bring in the more qualified patients who will pay you higher. Why? Because you have more credibility now.
  4. It helps you market your practice without really marketing it: Remember, case studies might sound non-commercial but what they do is convince viewers to trust you and to give you their business.
  5. It brands you as someone who goes the extra mile: Remember, most of your competition will never take the time to create video case studies, giving you the edge.

Whenever we start working with new dental offices, we make sure we create case studies for them to re-brand them as the elite.

This ensures that they get more business and more importantly, that they get the right kinds of patients.
